The easiest way to strip any individual of their God-given rights is to deny his/her humanity. The Supremely wrong 1857 Dred Scott decision made the horrific treatment of black Americans possible by proclaiming that black people were not people, but property. Once upon a time we were considered mere “things” that could be bought, sold, or traded. Our humanity was robbed by ones who were created by the same Creator.
Although the Reconstruction Amendments rectified 7 Supreme Court Justices’ deeply flawed reasoning, 7 other justices continued the bizarre anti-human perversion. Citing the 14th Amendment, that which finally ascribed full citizenship and humanity to all black Americans, they culled a right to deny another group’s humanity and allow lives to be treated like discarded property. Roe v. Wade is merely one of many, in a long line of civil rights injustices, that Time and passionate effort have overturned.
Abortion infects our entire society. From the deterioration of family comes a whole host of destructive elements in the black community that many of us believe can be reversed. Our children are precious, in and out of the womb. The emotional, physical, spiritual, and economic well-being depend upon our efforts to protect them from the moment of conception through their moment of graduation into adulthood.
The status quo is killing us. Literally. We must act now.
